In 2002, ESPN, referring to the pole vault death of 16 year old Florida high school student, Jesus Quesada, stated that Quesada’s “death didn’t even cause a ripple in the national news.” (see article) To the contrary, days following the death of Jesus Quesada, the death of teenage collegiate pole vaulter, Kevin Dare, during a nationally televised track meet, garnered international media attention after Dare, as did Jesus Quesada, sustained a preventable fatal head injury while pole vaulting. BOTH, Kevin's and Jesus Quesada’s DEATHS, were undeniably the result of LETHAL conventional FLEXIBLE vaulting pole MISapplication being NEGLIGENTLY promoted by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The NFHS and NCAA are only two among the many accountable organizations condoning this ongoing carnage that continues still today. Since the late 1980s, sports equipment Goliath, United Canvas & Sling, has been profiting from the world's TOP MISapplied vaulting pole brand, "UCS Spirit," with which Kevin Dare also vaulted. Besides the needless deaths of Dare and Quesada, that same year there were two other documented teenage pole vault fatalities together with numerous other avoidable permanently disabling documented catastrophes. At the time, relating to Kevin’s death, Paul Terek, “No. 6 vaulter in the nation,” stated: “100 out of 100 pole vaulters have had some kind of accident in their careers. You just bury it, but it's been unearthed now…” (see article) In other words, in 2002, world-class pole vaulter, Paul Terek, publicly exposed that "100%" of pole vaulters sustain “some kind” of injury. This was alarming negative news that had suddenly been publicized regarding a formerly abiguous multimillion dollar sports entity. Thus, also shocking, were the disturbing catastrophic statistics that inevitably surfaced exposing the hidden negligent consequences needlessly victimizing young girls and boys naively participating in this deadly obscure high school and college sports event.

RODEO BULL RIDERS and “TRADITIONAL” POLE VAULTERS have in common that 100% of those who routinely participate in these two life-threatening events will suffer injuries. The glaring difference, between POLE VAULTER DEATHS and RODEO BULL RIDER DEATHS, is that the average pole vault fatality is much younger, at only 17 years of age, with the youngest confirmed avoidable pole vault death being a 14 year old child, Charles Patrick “Chuck” VanKeulen, in 1979, with the crossbar height at only 7 feet. The senseless death of this Iowa child influenced Bernard E. Saggau, ("Bernie") former president of the NFHS (National Federation of High School Athletic Associations) and executive director of the IHSAA (Iowa High School Athletic Association), to initiate the 1980s termination of high school pole vault in the state of Iowa. It is a documented fact that the typical pole vault fatality is the result of a PREVENTABLE life-ending catastrophe in which a naive minor child is the senseless victim.

As a CALIFORNIA RESIDENT and former FEDERAL FIREARMS LICENSED GUN DEALER, in 1991, without showing any proof of age, any form of identification and no background investigation, whatsoever, I ignorantly purchased for my teenage son the most lethal weapon ever manufactured by a firearms company. I ordered and received my high school son's brand new DEADLY WEAPON from sports equipment Goliath, UCS (United Canvas & Sling), the same company that later produced the identical MISapplied poles that KILLED Kevin Dare in 2002. When I initiated my 1991 UCS purchase for my son, I had no idea that, established on a "risk to user per application" basis, these deadly implements are among the most lethal weapons ever developed by human hands. Even though, at the time of my purchase, I was aware that the Browning Arms Company (world renowned firearms manufacturer) produced and marketed the same items thirty years earlier (see 1960s promo), I still did not have a clue as to HOW DEADLY these obviosly dangerous implements actually are. Today, decades of documented preventable catastrophes substantiate the tragic fact that countless young boys and girls, along with family members and caring friends, have been forever devastated as a consequence of needless deaths and injuries resulting from the DEVIL-MAY-CARE DISTRIBUTION and reckless MISapplication of these proven lethal weapons.

John Moses Browning (January 23, 1855 – November 26, 1926) was the son of Jonathan Browning, a Mormon pioneer who established a Ogden, Utah, gunsmith shop in 1852. John M. Browning manufactured his first firearm when he was just a child, at age 13, and later established the world renowned Browning Arms Company. Some of Browning's most outstanding firearm designs are the Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR), the Browning "fifty" caliber machine gun and the Winchester Model 1894.
